OUR CEO IN MEMORIAM
The Chief Executive Officer of Pharm Access Africa Limited Limited, Parmindar S. Lotay (Darsi), has over 50 years of experience in senior management with large multinational pharmaceutical companies in more than 19 countries across East, Central and West Africa.
He has a deep understanding of the industry and the role it can play in improving access to healthcare in the region. Earlier in his career, Darsi recognized that the pharmaceutical industry should not just focus on selling products, but also involve itself in the realm of preventive medicine and keep the community informed about current treatment options.
He has a long history of service to healthcare organizations, including serving in various capacities with the Kenya Diabetic Association, the first diabetic association in Africa, and helping to set-up similar associations in Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Rwanda.
In 1982, Darsi served as the Secretary General for the 11th Congress of the International Diabetes Federation, which was held in Nairobi and attracted over 4,000 delegates. This is the only conference of the federation that has been held in Africa. From 1983 to 1985, he served as the Vice-Chairman of the Kenya Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis.
During his tenure in the pharmaceutical industry, Darsi established standalone marketing structures in Kenya that provided support for over 19 countries in Eastern, Central, and West Africa. He has participated in numerous task forces and advisory panels in various therapeutic areas and pioneered the use of multi-detailing and marketing teams in the region.
He has also been responsible for designing media campaigns for fast-moving consumer goods. In addition to his industry experience, Darsi has also advised the National Drug Authority in Uganda and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in Kenya on the establishment of registration processes for pharmaceuticals in their respective countries.
Over the past 21 years, Darsi has led Pharm Access Africa Limited Limited in various initiatives with local and international NGOs to increase access to healthcare, including antiretroviral treatment, drugs for opportunistic infections, reproductive health commodities, and other interventions related to HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, and infection control. His efforts have been instrumental in improving the health and lives of people in Africa.
In 2022, Darsi sadly passed away. He left behind a living mission and PAAL shall continue to emulate his dream.
